Duration: May 18, 2022- May 28, 2023
Venue: Nitra Gallery’s Salon

Another one of Nitra Gallery’s small-scale Salon exhibitions is dedicated to nude art and its numerous representations in the gallery’s fund of drawings. The collection includes a rather large number of nude drawings, but we have selected only two artists with the highest number of nudes on paper. The artists, their works and life paths are is some way linked to the region of Nitra. “The X. Files” will be a standard genre and theme-focused exhibition.

Nudity/corporeity and their depictions have always been important themes in the world of art. The exhibition will not present just female nudes we are mostly visually “accustomed” to, but it will also feature depictions/studies of the male body as women also get curious at times and the code of man’s curious eye, so empowered by the history of art, is not so bullet-proof as we tend to believe.
The selected 25 drawings by Viktor Belányi (1877-1955) and Ľudovít Slamka (1906-1969) will be presented at the Salon which will be turned into a mirror room. The X. Files exhibition appropriates the title of the popular mystery TV series and also references the popularity of nudes and the way artists name them, e.g. Female Nude XIX., Male Nude V..

We have invited a guest artist to join the exposition. Mira Gáberová (1979) works across different media and usually studies the place and existence of an individual in today’s world. Gáberová intervenes into the exposition with her own perception of nudity/nudes/body/corporeity.
